Healthcare reform and Medicare
As Washington continues its efforts to improve healthcare in general, it’s important people are aware that Congress recently passed two major pieces of legislation that will impact millions of people’s medical bills. While not revolutionary in nature, both bills help ensure lower premiums, healthier choices and better outcomes.
The first bill was authored by Representatives Peter DeFazio (D -Ore.) and Andy Barr (R-Texas), and will benefit insurers in Oregon, Washington, and Montana. This bill provides coverage for individuals with incomes below $75,000 per year or disabled persons earning less than $50,000 annually. Additionally, individuals with income below the poverty line will enjoy expanded healthcare options. It’s a win-win!
The second bill was authored by Representatives Brad Schneider (D -Ore.), Jackie Speier (D), Greg Walden (R-Oregon) and Don Beyer (D-Washington).
This new piece of legislation makes significant changes to the individual health insurance market by giving consumers more choice over which products they choose and how often they use them.
